MP visits new development of affordable housing

15 September 2010

Fylde MP Mark Menzies was in Lytham St Annes last week to visit a new development of affordable homes.

The 111 new homes, just off Heyhouses Lane in Lytham, have been built to meet the need for affordable homes in the area.

The development, which will cost in excess of £10million, is set to be completed by the end of October this year. It comprises of 75 two bedroom flats, 26 three bedroom houses, six four bedroom houses, four two bedroom disability bungalows, as well as a scheme to provide 5 supported living places.

The new homes have been developed by St. Annes based New Fylde Housing, part of Progress Housing Group, together with Southdale Homes, with funding provided by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and Fylde Borough Council.

Local MP Mr Menzies was given a tour of the development by Managing Director of New Fylde Housing, Eric Tamanis, and Senior Development manager, Ian Worley.

Mr Menzies, said: “This is a great scheme and I’m delighted that New Fylde Housing has been able to make it happen. Lytham St. Annes needed more affordable homes to meet the needs of local families. The great thing about this scheme is that local people were consulted which has proved to be a huge success. I hope that more developments like this will be possible in the future.”

Fylde Borough Council contributed £416,000 from its affordable housing fund to the Heyhouses development. The HCA has also invested £5,942,000 into the project, making it one of their largest funded schemes in the area.

Eric Tamanis, Managing Director of New Fylde Housing, said: “We are committed to delivering the highest quality affordable homes for the local community and are absolutely delighted with the success in developing the Heyhouses development and enhancing the surrounding area.”

Deborah McLaughlin, North West Director of the Homes and Communities Agency, said: “We have worked closely with Fylde Borough Council to help find ways to best meet the housing needs and aspirations of people in Lytham.I’m pleased that we have been able to support this major new scheme at Heyhouses Lane and look forward to seeing residents move into these great new homes.”

As part of the new development, New Fylde Housing has also made a considerable financial contribution towards improving the adjoining community area, Waddington Park.As well as undertaking massive improvement work to the estate’s existing homes to complement the surrounding area.

An official opening event is set to take place in October for residents of the estate, New Fylde Housing staff and all partners and stakeholders to celebrate the completion of the project.
