Progress Care Housing Association is a member of the award-winning Leeds Independent Living Accommodation Company (LiLAC) that has been awarded a 25-year contract by Leeds City Council to deliver purpose-built homes for 343 adults with a mental health need or learning disability, as well as four schemes for children.

Other members of the LiLAC consortium are Jack Lunn (Properties) and Gleeson Capital Solutions, working in partnership with funders NORD/LB. The accommodation is ranged over 39 sites within 74 different schemes.

We regard tenant consultation and involvement as paramount to the successful design and delivery of any scheme and its sustainability. Our multi-skilled team has extensive knowledge of specific design issues and needs related to the provision of supported housing. We involve prospective tenants and stakeholders at all stages of the development to ensure that tenants’ long-term needs are being met through good design and management.

The LiLAC residents have had considerable involvement in the design and planning of the accommodation and shaping the delivery of our housing management services, including the recruitment of our staff team for the project. This achievement was recognised at the Public:Private Finance Awards 2009 where the LiLAC team won the award for the Best Community/User Involvement in a Project.

Progress Care Housing Association has also been awarded a grant of over £450,000 from the National Lottery’s Big Lottery Fund to undertake a unique research project in relation to the LiLAC scheme.

The research will aim to measure whether the move from large, hostel accommodation can lead to greater independence, integration into local communities and increased social and employment opportunities for individuals.
