New Fylde Housing

Extra care accommodation

What is extra care sheltered housing?
Extra care sheltered housing is sheltered housing with special facilities and additional services.
The special facilities include assisted bathing rooms, meeting room, large kitchen and residents lounge. The additional services that will be provided include help with bathing; dressing; cooking; cleaning and taking medication.

Following assessment by a Social Worker or Health Professional Nurse dedicated to developing very sheltered housing in the Fylde, these services will be provided by a team of carers based at the scheme.

Why do we need the extra care sheltered housing service?
In the past, residents in Sheltered Accommodation in need of help with personal care (bathing;
dressing; cooking; shopping; etc) have had to move into residential care homes in order to receive the level of care they need.

With an on-site care team, residents will now be able to receive care and support in their own homes without having to move into residential care.

The service will also allow people living in the community in need of such support, to move into a Sheltered Scheme instead of moving to residential care.

Individuals will still have their own front door and will receive the care and support in the privacy of their own home.

Our sheltered housing schemes will always remain just that; it is not the intention of the partnership to change them into residential care homes simply with another name. It is planned that up to a third of residents at the scheme will receive care and support from the onsite team. The remaining residents may at some time require assistance with care needs and this will be available from the Care Team, subject to assessment by the Social Worker.
