Aids & adaptations

We spend around £150,000 each year carrying out adapations for those tenants, or their family, who are disabled.

There are two types of adaptations that the Association carries out. Minor works are usually non urgent, small jobs, that can be carried out as part of our routine repairs schedule. In many of these cases we do not need an assessment by the Occupational Therapist because our specialist Assessment Officer will be able to organise the work. Most minor adaptations are carried out within 28 days.

Major works usually involve wheelchair ramps, level access showers and stair lifts. For stair lifts we sometimes ask for assistance from Local Authorities to fund this type of work. An occupational therapists recommendation is needed for these types of works. Major works are placed into two priorities:

Priority 1 - Urgent (to be carried out within 3 months) These are works that are an immediate risk to your health and safety or you need them to be discharged from hospital.

Priority 2 - medium (to be carried out within 6 months) These works are needed for you to carry out essential activities or you mobility around your home is seriously inhibited.

Whilst we will also try and help to provide adaptations there may be occasions where the work cannot be carried out or the proposed works are unsuitable for your type of property. In these cases a move to more suitable accommodation may be needed.

To apply for an adaptation please contact our Customer Services Team on 01772 450600.
