Penwortham Community Club
After a successful funding bid to The Community Investment Panel the Penwortham area have recently appointed a new MATAC Coordinator, Louise Wright to oversee and organise activities for the residents of Penwortham.
One of the main highlights from this introduction has been the re-launch of the youth club that now focuses on all young people living within the area. Two separate sessions are held for the youth club, one for the young people aged 8-11 on a Tuesday Evening between 6.30pm-8pm. The second is open to those aged 11-16 years and in high school and runs between 6.30pm-9pm on a Friday evening. Both clubs offer a range of activities and offer incentives to those individuals who attend to behave with respect whilst in the centre and out on the streets. From Friday 14th January they have music coming into the centre to help the young people create some of their own music.
Both clubs have been a huge success and with local residents volunteering they have the room to grow even more. If you are interested in attending or volunteering at either one why not go along to the allotted time or contact Louise on any of the methods below.
Louise also spoke with the other members of the community who expressed a need for computer skills training. This has now been implemented as part of the luncheon club that takes place on a Monday morning. They are also hoping to run Drama workshops on a Sunday afternoon throughout February to bring the whole community together.
Louise and the members of the community club are always looking to work with more local residents and organisations and would welcome any ideas you may have for the area. Louise said ‘We are trying to encourage the whole community to get involved – we would like people with skills like sewing, gardening and computer skills to come and volunteer so that they can teach our young people some basic skills in these areas as well as trying to bridge the generation gap and getting more people in the community involved to build better relations.’
