What is rent?
Tenants pay money, called rent, to their landlord. Rent pays for the cost of providing your home and allows you to stay there. Among other things, rent covers the cost of most repairs to your home.
What are services charges?
Your total rent may also includes service charges. These charges pay for services that are provided as well as your property. For example, looking after your garden or some items of furniture that we provide.
When do I pay my rent?
Your rent should be paid every Monday. You can choose to pay monthly but payments must be made a month in advance. Remember, it is your responsibility to pay your rent on time.
How much rent do I have to pay?
The amount of rent you pay depends on the type of home that you live in and where you live. You will be told how much to pay when you first sign up for your tenancy. After that we will write to tell you if your rent changes. If you are not sure how much to pay then contact your Housing Officer. Our contact details are on the back page.
Rent increases
Rents will not normally be increased more than once a year. Any increases will usually begin in April. We will always write to you one month before your rent is changed to let you know the new amount to pay.
If you are not happy about the amount that your rent is being increased by, then contact us and we will tell you how you can appeal.
Changes in service charges
Service charges are based on the estimated costs of providing you with services for shared parts of your home, such as cleaning or lighting. We review these charges once a year and they may go up or down. We will write to you one month before to tell you if your service charges change and what the new amount to pay is.
