Due to the overwhelming success of last summer’s football coaching sessions New Fylde Housing has once again joined forces with Blackpool FC in supporting football in the community.
A number of soccer sessions, will take place throughout the school holidays in July and August, for children aged 8 to 16 years old, with ex Blackpool and Northern Ireland International Derek Spence leading the sessions.
With more than forty children attending the sessions last year, a mini football tournament was set up, with the wining team invited to attend a match day experience at Blackpool's football ground. The winners from the tournament attended the Blackpool vs. Blackburn match on Sunday 25th September and were invited onto the Bloomfield Road pitch at half time to receive their medals and trophy by Blackpool player, Danny Coid.
This years sessions will be held on:
Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th July at Heyhouses, Waddington park, Lytham St Annes. Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd August at Lower Lane, Freckleton
Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th August at the Bridges recreation ground in Warton.
The sessions will run from 11am till 12.30 pm for ages 8 - 11 years and from 12.30 pm - 2.00 pm for ages 12 - 16 years.
Organising the football session on behalf of New Fylde Housing, Richard Lowthian, said: “We had a great turn out to last year’s football session and we are hoping for even better this year. The scheme is a great opportunity for children to get involved with their local football club as well as getting involved in community activities.”
Derek Spence, Community officer for Blackpool FC Community Team, said: " We are delighted that New Fylde housing have asked us to deliver the summer activities again. Last year was a huge success and we look forward to meeting up with some of the young people who attended last year, as well as, hopefully, some new faces. We also look forward to working with New Fylde housing once again and hopefully on many more projects to come"
