The Big Lunch

05 June 2011 - Residents from Lower Lane in Freckleton hold their first 'Big Lunch'.

On Sunday 5th June residents from Lower Lane in Freckleton held their first Big Lunch.

The lunch was a huge success with neighbours turning up to get to know each other better over a plate of food.

With face painting, a bouncy castle and a raffle, people of all ages could have some fun and meet their neighbours. The idea of the day was to encourage people living in the same area to get to know each other better by sharing food and, in turn, sharing experiences.

The event was organised by New Fylde Housing resident involvement team with help from the Young People Service (YPS). Sue Fisher, Resident Involvement Manager for New Fylde, said: “The aims of the Big Lunch are very much in line with our own - encouraging residents to come together to create stronger communities.

“It is a simple idea but something which can really help to break down barriers. People are often shy about talking to their neighbours but getting together over a meal provides a great excuse and we were pleased to be able to support the initiative. The Big Lunch is a national campaign, run by the Eden Project, to build stronger neighbourhoods."
