The 11 new homes situated off St Andrew’s Way will include two shared ownership properties that will enable first time buyers and families from the local area to snap up beautiful brand new homes that might otherwise be out of reach.
Built only minutes away from Leyland town centre, the development consists of nine two-bed houses for affordable rent and two three-bed houses for shared ownership.
Under the Shared Ownership initiative, the three bedroom homes will be available from as little as £65,000. This figure is based on a 50% share of the full purchase price of £130,000. The nine two-bed houses will be available to rent with priority given to people with a local connection to Leyland or South Ribble.
The development is part of a joint working between New Progress Housing Association and South Ribble Borough Council to revamp the former disused mill site into high quality social housing.
Bernie Keenan, Managing Director of New Progress Housing Association, said: “By offering homes through shared ownership we are helping people from all walks of life to either get on the property ladder for the first time or ensure they remain on it.
“We are committed to providing high quality affordable housing and are delighted to be working closely with South Ribble Borough Council and the Homes and Communities Agency on this exciting scheme.”
Councillor Cliff Hughes, South Ribble Borough Council’s cabinet member for Strategic Planning and Housing, said: “Work to transform this disused mill site into 11 much-needed affordable homes is excellent news for families looking for affordable accommodation, and people from Leyland will be given priority as part of the scheme.
“We now hope that the infrastructure put in place for the new housing will help unlock the remainder of the site’s potential and attract further development.”
The development has received funding of £500,000 from the Homes and Communities Agency and £180,000 from South Ribble Borough Councils affordable housing programme.
Deborah McLaughlin, executive director North West at the HCA, said:We are particularly pleased we have been able to support this scheme which provides affordable homes of high environmental standards. They will no doubt prove very popular with local people.”
