Green fingered residents wow judges

13 September 2011 - New Fylde Housing tenants have shown true fighting spirit this summer in beating the weather to produce beautiful garden displays for its annual gardening competition.

New Fylde Housing tenants have shown true fighting spirit this summer in beating the weather to produce beautiful garden displays for its annual gardening competition.

With six categories to enter, green-fingered tenants had plenty to go at in creating beautiful small and large landscapes, pretty containers, window boxes and hanging baskets and tasty home-grown fruit and vegetables.

Mr and Mrs Cross from Wesham, came first in the large gardens over 16ft category, with Mr and Mrs Crimmins from Wesham gaining the judges prestigious, outstanding achievement award.

Mr Cooke from Freckleton wowed the judges with his delicious home grown fruit and vegetables, whilst Freckleton Parish Council, were successful with their entry in the best community project category.

The popular competition is organised every year by New Fylde Housing to recognise tenants who make a positive difference to their neighbourhoods with their gardens.

All winners and runners-up received garden centre vouchers and certificates in recognition of their hard work from New Fylde Housings Deputy Managing Director, Tammy Bradley at a special awards ceremony.

She said: The gardening competition often attracts a very high standard of entries from tenants and this year is was no different. It is great to see the pride that people take in their gardens and we would like thank all those who entered and are brightening up our communities.”
