Using their heads to raise money for charity

29 March 2011 - In a fundraising gesture to her husband who is being treated for cancer, Molly Pickersgill, a resident of Croft and Naze Court and manager of the sheltered scheme in Freckleton, Liz Mercer, have shaved their heads for charity.

In a fundraising gesture to her husband who is being treated for cancer, Molly Pickersgill, a resident of Croft and Naze Court and manager of the sheltered scheme in Freckleton, Liz Mercer, have shaved their heads for charity.

The two ladies decided they would shave off their locks and dye what was left pink, in order to raise money for Cancer Research UK, the UK’s leading cancer research charity.

Molly said: “I wanted to raise money for a good cause and decided on Cancer Research UK because my husband suffers from cancer and it is a charity close to my heart.”

Residents of the sheltered housing scheme also joined in on the fundraising, by holding a raffle, tombola and cake sale.

Gill Shaw, Sheltered Housing Co-ordinator for New Fylde Housing, said: “Croft and Naze Court are exceptional for fundraising and this time they have decided to raise the money for Cancer Research UK which is a charity they all support.”

Liz, Molly and the rest of the residents from Naze and Croft Court hope to raise over £1,000 for the charity.
