What is Lifeline?
Lifeline is a system of calling for help at the touch of a button. It’s a small unit connected to your existing phone line, with a pendant alarm that can be worn round your neck, on your wrist or clipped to your clothing.
Can anyone have a Lifeline alarm?
Lifeline is available to anyone, you do not have to be disabled or above a certain age, there is no eligibility criteria. Lifeline provides an emergency link for lots of people for different reasons:
- people who live alone
- individuals who are recovering at home after being in hospital
- people at risk of falls
- vulnerable adults who want to maintain an independent lifestyle
- adults with disabilities wanting to maintain their independence
- individuals suffering the distress of harassment or bogus callers
- victims or people at risk from domestic violence
How does it work?
In the event of an emergency, your telephone might be the only way of getting help. With Lifeline, help is instantly available, even if the phone is out of reach.
You can press the button on your pendant and you will be connected immediately to one of our friendly, experienced staff who will offer help and assistance as required. If necessary, they will contact the emergency services, your doctor or a designated family member, friend or neighbour. The operator will talk to you through the unit’s speaker and microphone system until help arrives.
When should I press the button?
You can press the button anytime. There will always be someone to answer your call at 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
What if I press the button by mistake?
Even if the button is pressed by mistake, we will be more than happy to speak to you. Simply explain to the operator that it was pressed by mistake.
When should I wear the pendant?
We recommend that you wear the pendant when you are in your house and garden. The pendant can be worn in bed, however, if you prefer not too, remember to leave it within easy reach e.g. on the bedside table. The pendant is waterproof and can be worn in the shower.
Where will Lifeline work?
You can raise the alarm with your pendant anywhere in your home and garden up to 50 metres (about 90 ft) from the unit. If you cannot hear the operator, or they are unable to hear you, the operator will take the appropriate action to get help to you.
Who will attend if no family or friends live close by?
You can choose an additional 24 hour service provided by our emergency mobile response team. In the event of an emergency, they will attend your home and if emergency services are required they will stay with you until they arrive. We also offer a key safe installation service for your convenience.
Is there a minimum contract?
There is no minimum contract. Lifeline can be used to provide short-term peace of mind, for instance, whilst recovering from illness, or long-term comfort and independence to anyone who may be at risk in their home. Lifeline also gives reassurance to family and carers.
How much does it cost?
The Lifeline service is offered as a rental package, which includes the provision of the Lifeline unit, pendant, 24 hour cover by the Control Centre and all maintenance of the unit and pendant. The cost is £3.60 per week, with an installation fee of £20. The service may also be available for free or at a reduced cost for those people in receipt of certain benefits.
