Life & Progress Tenant Support: The benefits of friendship and social groups
We have partnered with mental health and wellbeing provider Life & Progress to offer a tenant support and wellbeing service.
Life & Progress encourages us all to make time to pursue social interaction:
In today’s fast-paced world, technology often takes over face-to-face interactions.
But friendships and social groups are very important for mental health and overall wellbeing.
Studies show that people with strong social networks have less stress, better mental health, and feel happier and more connected.
The Role of Friendships
Friendships are key to social support. They provide a space to share thoughts and feelings without judgment. This emotional support helps reduce loneliness and isolation, boosting self-esteem and confidence. Doing activities with friends also promotes physical health, which is linked to better mental health.
Benefits of Social Groups
Being part of a social group, like a hobby club, sports team, or community organisation, offers similar benefits. These groups provide structured social interactions, helping people develop a sense of purpose and identity. They create a community where individuals feel understood and supported, which is especially helpful for those with anxiety or depression.
To get the most out of friendships and social groups, consider these four things:
- Active Participation: Attend meetings, join activities, and stay in touch with friends. This strengthens bonds and ensures mutual support.
- Open Communication: Be open and honest with friends and group members. Sharing feelings and listening to others builds deeper connections and trust.
- Seek Help: Talk to someone at Life & Progress who can provide extra support and guidance.
- Be Supportive: Offer support to friends and group members. Helping others reinforces your own sense of community and belonging.
