Business networking group, Women in Social Housing (WISH) has donated over £100 worth of toiletries to a women’s refuge in Lancashire.

WISH asked their members to donate much needed supplies including shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes and deodorants, in support of South Ribble Women’s Refuge, Clare House.

Clare House provides emergency and ongoing accommodation and support to women who are fleeing domestic violence. Women and their children often arrive at the refuge with few or no belongings and find something as basic as toiletries pack a huge benefit.

Set up in 2000 as part of Progress Housing Group, Clare House has provided a safe haven to over 700 women and their children. The refuge staff have supported a further 400 women through its community resettlement service.

Liz Stanton, Manager of Clare House, said: “On behalf of the staff, women and children I would like to say thank you to WISH members for their toiletries donation. Throughout the year we rely heavily on the generosity of the local community and businesses to supply the refuge with essentials such as toiletries and clothes.

“Quite often, women and children come into the refuge with no belongings due to the circumstances in which they vacated their property. Thanks to organisations like WISH, we are able to supply them with food, toiletries and clothes. Their donation plays a crucial part in part in the service we provide.”

Kerry Whittle, Secretary for WISH North West said: “WISH North West is committed to helping local charities which work with women - we are delighted that our members and WISH friends have donated so generously to this appeal and we are pleased to be able to support Claire House in its excellent work.”

WISH is a Networking Group for women working in the Social Housing Sector - from housing associations and local authorities, to contractors and housebuilders, architects, project managers, engineers and solicitors.
