Progress Lifeline has expanded its services into Lancaster and Morecambe and is looking for people who would be interested in joining a team to help create a mobile responder team in the area.

Progress Lifeline, part of Lancashire based Progress Housing Group, has been providing services to help people live independently in the Preston, South Ribble, Chorley, Fylde and Wyre area for over 20years.  They provide a 24-hour monitored pendant alarm which, when pressed goes through to their Control Centre in Leyland, where trained operators talk to the customers to establish the reason for the call and take action to help the customer. They also provide a range of telecare sensors that provide further support by activating automatically, such as in the case of a fall, even if the wearer is unable to push their button.

Steven Mckiernan, Business Development Manager for Progress Lifeline explains; “In most cases, customers have local family or contacts who can be called upon, but some people do not have anyone local and this is when the mobile responder teams come into action.  The Control Centre operators get many calls where they are unable to get a response from the customer or the customer has no local contacts, and in these circumstances a mobile responder can be deployed to the customer’s address, gain entry through a keysafe and establish the reason for the call.

Thankfully many of the calls turn out to be false activations, but where the customer needs help the responder can take necessary action, such as calling the emergency services.”

Responders receive training  in assistive lifting with the help of an inflatable lifting cushion, as many customers experience falls in their home where they are uninjured but do require assistance in getting up.  In addition the responders are trained to provide injury assessment and moving and handling people.  So far this year the team have helped over 500 people back on their feet, without the need for an ambulance.

Progress Lifeline are looking for people who would be interested in joining the team as a mobile responder in the Lancaster and Morecambe area, so if you are the type of person who likes supporting people in your local community and likes variety and a challenge, this could be the role for you.  Our current responders generally work one week in four either nights or days.
