Progress Housing Group take part in DIY SOS Children in Need special for Lancashire charity Nightsafe
Towards the end of summer 2019, Progress Housing Group were privileged to be part of a team of volunteers joining DIY SOS and Children in Need to help with a Big Build for the charity Nightsafe in Blackburn.
Three of our multi-skilled Trade Operatives volunteered their services to help with the build, and joined other volunteers from around the North West; the brief - to convert a church hall into safe and secure accommodation for young people who are, or who are at risk of becoming, homeless.
Our Lead Labourer Nick told us all about his experience of being involved in such an amazing cause:
"I was asked if I'd be interested in volunteering for the DIY SOS Big Build for Children in Need and thought it was a great cause and was honoured I'd been asked to help. I could only help for one day due to work commitments but it was an experience I won't forget.
"After registering with the team, we walked into the building which we'd be working in and were asked to build two seating areas under the stairs. We were told where all the materials were and we cracked on.
"The atmosphere was great, with everyone helping each other if needed, and we got to meet DIY Billy and Nick Knowles but I don't think we were filmed while we were there, which I'm pleased about!.
"I am incredibly proud to have been involved in this experience."
The DIY SOS Big Build episode for Nightsafe will be shown on Wednesday 13 November 2019, at 8 pm on BBC1.
