Blog | The benefits of good quality housing for health
Progress Housing Group is supporting the National Housing Federation's Homes at the Heart campaign. Week three of the campaign focuses on why homes are at the heart of living well.
Here, Progress Housing Group's Head of Property Services, Cath Mustafa, explains the benefits of investment in good housing for health.
It is widely recognised that good quality housing is key to our health and wellbeing. That’s why here at Progress Housing Group we are continuing to invest in our properties and have committed to spending almost £600m over the next 30 years, maintaining and improving our homes for our customers.
Despite the recent lockdown due to Covid-19, we have continued to deliver our repairs service to the same high standard, delivering emergency and essential compliance repairs, keeping our customers safe and secure throughout lockdown and we returned to ‘business as usual’ as soon as the restrictions were eased.
We are committed to delivering our planned repairs and improvement programme, which will include £26m of investments this year, to include new kitchens and bathrooms, new heating systems, new doors and windows, ensuring our customers have homes that are warm and dry, helping to prevent illnesses caused by the damp and cold.
We will also carry out minor and major improvements for those customers who require adaptations to their homes, helping them to maintain independent, happy and healthy lives. This varies from undertaking major adaptation projects to carrying out minor improvements, helping to support our health service by keeping customers in their homes for longer.
We continue to deliver minor and major responsive repairs, ensuring any repair issues within our properties are dealt with quickly and effectively, all of which promotes good mental and physical health and happy, healthy customers.
We also invest heavily in safety within our properties, completing essential compliance work, ensuring all our customers are safe and secure in their homes. This includes the servicing of gas and electrical appliances and regular inspection and improvements to ensure we are compliant with all fire safety, asbestos and water hygiene legislation.
We put our customers at the heart of all our decisions and that includes investing in our properties, providing safe, secure and a warm home to all our customers.
