Shared ownership helps Sarah and Harry step onto the property ladder
Sarah, a Democratic Services Officer for a local authority, and Harry, a Governance Manager for the English Football League, wanted to live near their families in Fulwood, but saving for a large deposit was proving difficult.
Sarah said: "We were struggling to save for a deposit due to the high rent on our flat. We were both just starting out in our careers, too, so money was tight. The flat we were living in wasn't where we wanted to be, but we had no other options until we could muster up a good deposit. Then we heard about the Shared Ownership scheme.
"We now live in a three-bedroom end of terrace house, in an area where we would like to raise children in the future. It has good schools, woodland walks, lots of green space, and good amenities within walking distance. I have always wanted to live around here as I grew up less than a mile away. It is a lovely house and is a great starter home.
"The shared ownership scheme was a life-saver as it meant that we could get a mortgage for a 40% share in the property and pay rent on the rest (we pay the same now for the mortgage and rent on the house as we did for the flat). We know we have made a good investment, and as we are both successfully progressing in our chosen fields, we know we will be able to staircase up to 100% as soon as we can.
"Working with Progress Housing Group has been a dream. Christine (Grimshaw) was so helpful and insightful.
"Thank you for helping us to buy our wonderful new home."
