Tenants and residents living in Whitefield Meadow in Bamber Bridge were given a helping hand in getting rid of their bulky waste during our clean-up day.

Colleagues and volunteers from across the Group tidied up the area, picking up litter, trimming back hedges and helping residents throw unwanted items in the skip. The caretaking team was also on hand to carry out small repairs, including fixing a broken shed lock.

We were also joined by Karen Fletcher, from Bell Group, our decorating contractor, and members of Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, who were offering free fire safety checks.

Sam Beattie, Progress Involvement Officer at Progress Housing Group, said: “We are beginning to organise more of these events, they are proving really popular. If would like a clean-up day in your area, please contact your area housing team."

Our tenants appreciated the extra support on their area, as local tenant Marian told us: “We think it’s really useful to bring a skip into the street to help tenants with their unwanted items. One of our neighbours is disabled and they’ve been able to get rid of some household items today, and it’s also been really handy for us too. It’s great to be able to feedback what’s needed in the area to help keep it looking nice.”

Community clean-up days are based on tenant feedback, as part of our 'You said, We did' work, and provide an opportunity to help make their areas better places to live. The events also offer colleagues and tenants a chance to meet and feel a part of the community.

Anybody can volunteer at these events, from tenants to our own colleagues.

Tenants are sent leaflets through the door, encouraging them to bring out any rubbish they have that perhaps they cannot get to a skip or the tip themselves to dispose of. They are also invited to join us for lunch and chat with us about any issues they may have. Involved tenants are also welcome to help out.

We also live-streamed from the event!
