Festive activities at our independent living schemes
Independent Living tenants have been feeling festive thanks to a series of seasonal activities.
- Children from St Oswald’s Catholic Primary School visited Ashwood Court to perform their annual carol concert. The tenants sang and clapped along to the festive tunes, which included The First Noel, Away in a Manger, Silent Night, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
The children then enjoyed a drink and chocolate biscuits as they chatted to some of the tenants.
Susan, who helped to facilitate the festive treat for her fellow tenants, said: “It has been nearly three years since the children last came, because of Covid restrictions. But it has been absolutely wonderful. They are a really good choir and it has been a pleasure to hear them.”
The carol singing was not the tenants’ only festive treat this month, as they enjoyed a Christmas fayre, raising almost £400. They will donate £100 to Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, and £100 to Rosemere Cancer Foundation, which will both be match funded by our Charity Fund.
- Meanwhile, tenants at Bolton Croft in Leyland held a Christmas fayre, raising £180 for Rosemere Cancer Foundation, which will also be match funded our by Charity Fund.
- Elsewhere, it was panto season for two of our schemes, as members of Northeast Producers travelling theatre company performed Puss in Boots at Croft Court in Freckleton, and Oliver at Greenwood Court in Leyland.
Tenants loved heckling the baddies and laughing at the usual panto jokes.
They told us:
'It was quite delightful, and a surprise afternoon break’
‘it was a wonderful performance’
‘I really enjoyed it. Can we have more?’
‘It was a superb professional performance’.
Sue Broster, Progress Activities Co-ordinator, highlighted the importance of activities like these to increase social inclusion amongst isolated tenants.
She said: "Some of these schemes have struggled to get people back using the communal lounges, so seeing tenants sitting and enjoying the performances and also singing along to some of the songs was lovely."
