This is how we have been clearing up a community area in Leyland
Colleagues and volunteers from across the Group teamed up with tenants and residents in the Peacock Hall Road/Meadowcroft Road/Stonecroft area of Leyland this week to clear litter and fly-tipping and spruce up the tenants' community garden.
The community clean-up days provide an opportunity to support our communities and help make them places where people want to live. The events also offer colleagues and tenants a chance to meet and feel a part of the community.
We encourage anybody to volunteer at these events – our colleagues, teams, or tenants. For this clean-up day, we had some colleagues from one of our contractors, Bell Group, a volunteer colleague, and two interns from Project Search.
Tenants are sent leaflets through the door, encouraging them to bring out any rubbish they have that perhaps they cannot get to a skip or the tip themselves to dispose of. They are also invited to join us for lunch and chat with us about any issues they may have. Involved tenants are also welcome to help out.
Lisa Crawford, Area Housing Officer, said: "The tenants have done a lovely job of creating this woodland effect, and in the summer, it looks really nice. Unfortunately, some people have started fly-tipping, so we've also organised this skip to get it all cleared.
"We will organise a planting day in the spring to get some nice plants, and it will soon be a lovely environment to use again.
"For us, it is important because this shows we are out there, creating a presence and helping people get rid of things that they would not usually be able to, which makes our job easier."
Geoffrey is a volunteer tenant who loves taking part in clean-up days. He said: "It's a great community thing. I don't like litter, and I want to help make the area a better place. It is nice to be involved."
We also live-streamed from the event!

Our next community clean-up day will take place at Whitefield Meadow, Bamber Bridge, on 22 February.
