Our joinery apprentices Natalie Evans and Callum Farrington have written short blogs on what they have been doing whilst working with us.

Natalie tells us: "I started as an apprentice joiner in November 2021 and have since been working on the responsive repairs team with Neil. No two days are the same, as we're called to various jobs from simple door handles to building a complete fence. The variety of work keeps me on my toes and I have learnt a lot through watching and helping Neil carry out these repairs. The typical day starts at the yard collecting the materials we need for the day and off we go. As a female in a male dominated field I was apprehensive when I started that I might not fit in, but the team have been very welcoming, teaching me the ropes and I feel like a part of the repairs family now.

"At the beginning of April, I moved over to the Voids team which I believe will involve bigger jobs that may last multiple days. I am excited to be have joined this team and hope that I will learn even more invaluable skills to help me complete the apprenticeship."

Callum tells us: "For the past few months I have been a member of the Voids team. I have been working with a variety of joiners picking up new skills from each person allowing me to develop my own method for working. As a result, I have learnt a lot of new skills such as how to hang doors, fit new door casings, install kitchens and so much more. It has also allowed me to get around the team meeting new people."

Callum has put together this video to show us what he has been doing:  Progress Housing Group: Joinery apprentice Callum - YouTube
