Why we are volunteering
Volunteering at Progress Housing Group
The Marketing and Communications Team and the Project SEARCH interns are the latest teams to join one of Progress Housing Group's now regular volunteering days.
On Friday, 2 November (which turned out to be one of those perfect crisp and sunny Autumn days), colleagues came together to lend a helping hand out in the community for a couple of hours. The aim was to tidy the area around Sollam's Close in Bamber Bridge to make it safe, clean and tidy for our tenants.
Our colleagues worked with our Progress Involvement Officer, Sam, who had organised the volunteering day, the Caretaker Team and the Central East Housing Team to clear the area of leaves, pick up litter, and plant bulbs in the communal garden area ready for next Spring.
Michelle, our Area Housing Officer, said, "The Progress Involvement Team are brilliant. They organise these days where people can come and just lend a hand. Without the brilliant organisation of the Involvement Team and the Caretaker Team, and then volunteers from across the Group getting involved and helping out, we wouldn't be able to do days or half-days making such a difference in cleaning and tidying an area like this for our tenants. More volunteers, please!"
Project SEARCH Intern, Khushi, said, "I've really enjoyed this morning. I'd normally be in the office, but today it's been really nice to do something different like planting bulbs. It will be nice to come back and see the flowers when they come out."
Criddy, Project SEARCH Coach, added, "It's been so nice to come out and help today. Knowing that you're helping the tenants is a great feeling, and volunteering helps you feel good personally, too."

Why are we volunteering?
Volunteering provides many positive outcomes for our employees (either as individuals or as teams), the Group itself, and most importantly, the local communities and tenants we serve.
The Group allows colleagues to volunteer one day per annum as an individual or as part of an approved team-building event during regular working hours.
Since August 2021, we've been providing employees with a diverse choice of volunteering opportunities. Colleagues have been encouraged to make a positive difference in people's lives by supporting local charities, community groups, or our tenants and communities. In our first year of volunteering, 65 colleagues have volunteered around 258 hours, and we look forward to supporting even more during the latter part of 2022 and throughout 2023.
Non-colleagues can also get involved; we've got opportunities for people to sign up to be a Progress Pal - a pen pal service to exchange letters between you and our older tenants in our independent living accommodation.
