Carol takes to the skies for charity
Are you thinking of doing a charity challenge or fundraising for a cause close to your heart?
If you apply for our Charity Fund, we can match fund what you raise.
The Charity Fund is available to tenants and colleagues to match the money raised from their fundraising activities for the benefit of local charities.
One of our colleagues Carol, who works in the Control Centre, recently did a sky dive at Black Knights Parachute Centre in Cockerham, Lancaster. She raised £500 for Breast Cancer Now, which we matched to £1,000.
She shares her experience here:
“One evening late last year I saw an advert for a charity sky dive in support of Breast Cancer Now. Within half an hour I’d signed up. I’m very scared of heights and I’m still not sure what possessed me to book!
“The day arrived for my jump and I expected the nerves would kick in. They never did, and when the plane door opened at 15,000 feet I simply felt excited. It was the most exhilarating experience free falling and when the parachute opened, I felt so completely calm and peaceful. I had support on the ground from family and friends. My two-year-old grandson Freddie was especially impressed with Nanny jumping out of a plane!
“I raised £500 in sponsorship and Progress Housing Group kindly matched this for me. I have previously raised money running the London Marathon (for Galloway’s Society for the Blind) and The Great North run (for Alzheimer’s Society). Progress Housing Group matched donations for both these charities too."
So if you have been holding a cake sale, running a marathon or anything else to help raise funds for local charities you could apply to the Charity Fund to match the funds you raised, up to a maximum of £1,000.
