Saltcotes tenants give a warm welcome to a Ukrainian family
Tenants and local residents have given a warm welcome to a Ukrainian family who have moved onto Saltcotes estate.
When the community heard a family from Ukraine was moving onto the estate as Progress Housing Group tenants, they wanted to do something to reflect the positive and friendly nature of the area.
So they worked together to give them a welcome pack, with donated food items, which was very gratefully received.
Elaine Abbott, Secretary of Saltcotes Residents’ Association, said: “One of the residents had been working closely with a local charity to help secure a future for the family and he thought it would be nice to have a collection from the estate to welcome them.
“Nine people donated so much food between them. It was unbelievable! They were so generous.
"The Ukrainian lady is so lovely – as is the whole family. They were surprised and delighted with the hamper and said it made them all feel very welcome. It has also given them more confidence to meet people, as they can see how friendly and welcoming everyone is.
"Following on from the food appeal, residents have continued to offer them household items such as lamps, a TV stands and rugs which is really kind.
"Saltcotes really is a friendly estate with such lovely neighbours.”
