Thank you to everyone who helped to make our Cultural and Community Event another great success.

From carnival dancing and tasty treats, to balloon making and calm meditation, there was plenty of exciting things to watch and try out.

We had two floors of entertainment and recreational activities within Leyland Methodist Church Hall.

Pink Vintage opened the event in the main hall, whilst RWP tenant Robert showcased his singing and piano playing skills in the coffee bar.

Throughout the day, we were entertained by the likes of Rhythm Carnival Dance Troupe, Chorley Cakes Ceilidh Band, KTB Music, Catherine Sullivan and young, up-and-coming band Fuse.

Councillor Jane Bell was on hand to read some of her children’s stories and chat to local residents, and Julie from Purpose Wellbeing delivered some mindful yoga and relaxation sessions.  Stephen from Preston Meditation also led a seated meditation session.

There was also an opportunity to take a selfie whilst wearing a vibrant Caribbean Carnival headdress, make a peg doll with Dollies Dezigns, or try table magic with Dave and Paul from St Mary’s Community Centre.

It was great to see some of our tenants getting involved, as Fiona discussed why it is important to dispel stereotyping through the Stop Social Housing Stigma group. Ann and Ron took people on a trip down memory lane, and David showed off his collection of model airplanes.

Other stalls included Preston Black History Group, Red Rose Recovery, SLEAP, No Whispers CIC, Cloverleaf Advocacy, Radio Leyland and Lancashire Positive Minds.

Our Progress Futures Officer Cathy was also on hand to discuss how we can support you with free training, apprenticeships and employment opportunities.

Sam Beattie, Customer Voice Officer, said: “It was great to see everyone come together at Leyland Methodist Church to celebrate our diverse community with all the activities and support it has to offer.

“It meant a lot to us to be able to hear everyone’s stories and to experience new things and try different foods.

“We are proud of our community and really grateful for everyone’s support, especially our tenants and colleagues who gave up their time to share their passions.”
