Trades apprenticeships at Progress Housing Group | Our apprentices one year on
We caught up with some of Progress Housing Group's Property Services trades apprentices to see what they've learned so far and ask what 2023 has in store for them.
Here's what they told us.
Natalie - Apprentice Joiner
"I'm just over one year into my apprenticeship with the Group, with three years to go, and I'm really enjoying it. I'm loving all the new skills I've learned over the last year and the social events we've had, like the summer socials for employees last summer and other team socials out of work.
"I've started the new year working on voids doing second fixing, hanging doors, skirting boards and countertops. I've learned that joinery can be a great job for women just as much as for men, and at the end of my apprenticeship, I'd love to stay and grow my career at Progress.
"I'm proud to work for a company that looks after their tenants."
Adrian - Apprentice Plumbing and Heating Engineer
"I'm proud to just come to work here and do my job every day. I've been working here for over a year now, and everyone here is friendly.
As well as learning loads and building up my skills in plumbing and heating, the one main thing I've learned is that it's the people you work with who make it."
Kieron - Apprentice Bricklayer
"I'm one year into my apprenticeship now as well - I've got a lot better and I've learnt a lot more! It feels good to be given more responsibility; I can work on jobs on my own now, and I've been able to show a new starter how to use the iPad and how we accept jobs.
"My aim for 2023 (and the rest of my apprenticeship) is to continue to get better at my role, progress more, and learn plastering as well as bricklaying to become a multi-skilled tradesman. I will also hopefully learn to drive, pass my test and eventually be given a works van.
"I'm proud that my work directly helps so many tenants."
Callum - Apprentice Joiner
"I'm two years into my apprenticeship - I've passed my first qualification and have one year left to get my Level 3 in Joinery. Learning how to fit a kitchen and passing my qualification have been highlights of my apprenticeship so far.
"This year, I aim to pass my Level 3, and after that, I'd like to keep learning, learn another trade and become multi-skilled as this will open up lots more opportunities for me in my career.
"I'm proud to work for Progress as we have quite a good image as a company. I like our values and that we look after our tenants.
"If someone is looking to come and work for Progress or start an apprenticeship here, I'd tell them that they'll be looked after and made to feel welcome."
