Work starts on Lancashire extra care scheme
We are excited to announce that groundwork has now started on what will be our first extra care scheme.
The lead contractor for the development, Caddick Construction Ltd, has begun groundwork on the site which previously made up part of the University of Cumbria’s Lancaster campus.
Due to be completed in May 2025, the development will provide 108 low-cost homes, including 92 apartments with extra care facilities.
The new scheme will host a mixture of one- and two-bed apartments for those aged 55 and over and offer various levels of care. Residents will have access to a games room, roof terrace, laundry room and hairdressing facility, and communal areas will be sensitive to ‘dementia design’.
As part of the project two existing university buildings, ‘Barbon Hall’ and ‘Hornby Hall’, will make way for 16 one and two-bedroom general needs apartments.
The development is the Group’s first extra care scheme and the first in Lancaster, offering an important addition to the services available for older people in the area.
