Renovation and expansion of The Base community centre
It's been months in the planning, but the refurbishment of a much larger community space on Broadfield estate in Leyland is now underway.
A joint project between the Group and our subsidiary charity, Key Unlocking Futures, which manage the community centre, will see the renovation of two empty retail units in Bannister Drive to create The Base II. The existing building is a former retail unit on a parade of shops with the new space only a couple of doors down.
Andrea Andrews, Key Unlocking Futures Youth and Community Worker, manages the community centre and has successfully grown the hub which now engages with over 400 families from the surrounding estate.
The centre offers a range of activities, including a community shop and cafe. The centre's success has meant that the existing space has been outgrown and cannot meet the continuing demands for its services.
It was therefore decided that a more versatile space is needed to help expand the existing services and develop new ones that will benefit the whole community.
External funding for the works has been secured from South Ribble Borough Council, Lancashire Environmental Fund, and our Community Investment Fund.
The project will take several months to complete, so keep checking back here for regular updates.
Thank you to everyone involved with this project.
