Join the Social Housing Resident Panel

Would you like to share your views with the government and ministers about their social housing policies and reforms?

The Social Housing Resident Panel is looking for new tenant members, and as a Progress Housing Group tenant, you could be ideal!

The Social Housing Resident Panel brings together up to 250 social housing tenants from around the country, giving them a chance to share their views on government policies and reforms. The government wants to listen to tenants, making sure their opinions are heard and acted on.

Format
Members of the panel engage in regular meetings, focus groups, online discussions, surveys and questionnaires contributing to the development of social housing policy.

Priorities
The Panel votes on its priority topics within social housing policy, with suggestions put forward by Panel members. Officials then look for opportunities for the Panel to influence policy as it is developed, reflecting those priorities.

For example, over the past year, the Panel has looked at:
•    understanding experiences of anti-social behaviour
•    effective and respectful tenant engagement
•    repairs, maintenance and Awaab’s Law
•    the complaints process and the Housing Ombudsman, helping to shape the Make Things Right campaign
•    designing the public consultation on the Social Tenant Access to Information Requirements (STAIRS).

Panel members
The Social Housing Resident Panel is inviting social housing tenants from all areas, backgrounds and types of social housing across England to apply.

You don’t need to be involved in any of our Progress Housing Group tenant engagement processes or within your local community to join the Panel. All views and experiences are valuable.

How to apply
If you are interested, you can apply to join the panel by filling in a short application form.
The application process is straightforward, and we encourage any tenants who are interested in helping  shape policies to consider applying.

The closing date for applications is 11pm on Sunday 7 September 2025.
New panel members will be selected and notified in September.
New members will be invited to join Resident Panel activities from the autumn.

Applicants’ personal data will be handled according to the Social Housing Resident Panel privacy notice.

If you have any questions about the process, you can contact: residentpanel@communities.gov.uk
