Leyland tenants support the Poppy Appeal

Tenants in Leyland have raised £310 for the Poppy Appeal by holding a lunch, raffle and auction.

Sandra organised the fundraiser at Lowerhouse Community Centre, with help from fellow tenants Elizabeth, Susan and Angela.

Sandra said: “This was our way of saying we will never forget you. These people sacrificed so much for us to have what we have today and they should never be forgotten.

“Everyone enjoyed the event and this was one way of helping to get more people involved and using the community centre.

“During the lunch we held a raffle and then an auction. David, from Jubilee Court, had made some lovely diamond artwork of images related to the military and Poppy Appeal so we framed them and auctioned them off.

“Someone gave us genuine cap badges from the Scots, Welsh and Irish Guards.”

You will also see lots of crocheted red, blue and purple poppies made by ladies who meet up and knit/crochet at the centre on a weekly basis.

Sandra added: “The purple poppies are to remember service animals. The blue ones are our way of remembering personnel that lost their lives whilst serving in the military but not in conflict. This is important to me because my uncle was on exercise and the tank he was in overturned and he died in 1959. He was only 19.”

Progress Housing Group will match fund the money raised through our Charity Fund.
