Look out for us on our walkabouts
Your area housing officer carries out regular walkabouts in your neighbourhood. These aim to ensure that the local area looks appealing, functions well, and solves any problems.
During a walkabout, we:
• inspect communal areas, gardens, car parks, and pathways
• spot repairs and maintenance needs, like lighting, fencing, or cleaning issues
• check for health and safety concerns, such as trip hazards or fly-tipping
• listen to residents’ views and note down any concerns
You are also welcome to join us, as we think it is important that our tenants and area housing officers have a chance to talk about issues that concern you. You can raise issues directly, and hear about the work we are doing in your area.
Housing Officer Uzmah tells us what happens during her estate walkabouts: “As a housing officer, I carry out regular estate walkabouts. I check to make sure your neighbourhood stays clean, safe and well-looked after.
“As I go on my walkabouts, I visit your communal areas to check they are well-maintained and safe. Sometimes I notice fences that need mending in the gardens, or spot trip hazards, such as raised drain covers.
“I always keep an eye out for things like potholes or any fly-tipping that might be a hazard, and if something needs cleaning up, I will report it straight away. And of course, I love chatting with tenants and local residents, hearing what is on their minds, and how we can support them.”
The walkabouts are also a good opportunity for us to work with other partners to share knowledge of any potential issues in the area which we could help to resolve.
Bamber Bridge councillor David Bollenberg regularly joins us on our walkabouts with fellow councillor Emma Stevens.
He said: “As a local councillor in Bamber Bridge, it is a no-brainer for me to want to work with Progress Housing Group to represent my residents and their concerns.
“In joining Uzmah on the estate walks, I learn more about the issues Progress Housing Group and its tenants are facing, and I can pass on important updates on issues across the wider ward, village, and borough area.”
