Making good use of our SkyVac
The Property Services Team has proved the sky’s the limit when it comes to saving money.
The team has invested in a SkyVac, a high-powered vacuum unit with long reach attachments to remove debris, leaves, and other obstructions from gutters and downspouts.
It is used by Lead Labourers Shaun and Jason who have formed their own 'SkyVac Team' as part of the repair service.
The long reach attachment increases levels of safety, as it means the pair can clean the gutters and repair fascia soffits at ground-level, removing the need of ladders, scaffolding and specialist contractors. It can also be used to clear out gullies, blocked and ACO drains. It also has a camera and screen and an inspection pole which allows them to carry out inspections from the ground and make sure the gutters are completely clear.
Shaun, Lead Labourer, tells us more about the SkyVac equipment: "Previously we had to clean by hand using ladders and scaffolding. It would take 3 to 4 hours to clear out the gutters and drains but now we can clear them in 45 minutes to an hour.
"This is helping us save money on time, scaffolding and labour. We used to need a few operatives to clear the guttering but now it only needs 2 of us, meaning the others can concentrate on other work.
"Tenants are also happy. We have had quite a few compliments about it, especially when they have had ongoing issues with their gutters and we have been able to do it quickly. They are also happy that they don't need scaffolding at the front of their house."
- Value for Money (VFM) is at the heart of the services we deliver.
We want to ensure that we are offering the best possible services in the most efficient and effective way. You can view our annual VFM self-assessment document on our website: www.progressgroup.org.uk/VFM
The savings and efficiencies we make through VFM activity can be used to provide more new homes for people who need them; invest in local communities so they offer a safe and healthy place to live; and support people to achieve more opportunities and independence.
