Our safeguarding commitment
As part of our commitment to safeguarding our tenants, we are working in partnership with No Whispers Community Interest Company to deliver training and awareness on child sexual exploitation and child criminal exploitation.
The partnership forms part of No Whispers CIC’s project Right Here, Right Now, which is focused on contextual safeguarding. The project is supported by the National Lottery Community Fund.
We will be supporting and attending the next Right Here, Right Now event at St Mary’s Community Centre, in Leyland, on Thursday 26 June 5.30pm – 7.30pm. The event is open to everyone aged over 18 and includes a hot pot supper.
People can turn up on the night or book via info@nowhispers.co.uk or community@progressgroup.org.uk.
The Police Cyber Crime Unit and the Cyber Fraud Team will join us to talk about cybercrime and there will be information about cuckooing, how it happens and what to do.
Danny from Lads Like Us will tell his story of childhood abuse and neglect and how professionals and community let him down.
This is the second time we have supported No Whispers CIC in raising awareness and sharing information and funding refreshments at the last session with Lads Like Us in April.
Sam Beattie, Customer Voice Officer, said: “We are supporting the No Whispers CIC event along with other partners to create more aware and informed communities. We want to encourage our communities to be proactive to keep the community and the people in it safe.
“We are grateful to the Police Cyber Crime Unit and the Cyber Fraud Team for taking the time to help raise awareness of ways to protect ourselves from cyber crime.
“We also appreciate Danny from Lads Like Us joining us again to retell his experiences of trauma following abuse and neglect. His story is very impactful.”
Our safeguarding commitment continues as No Whispers CIC will deliver child exploitation and safeguarding training regarding adults at risk to colleagues from Reside With Progress next month.
Annette Stevens, Director of Housing Operations at RWP, said:
"This training gives our colleagues the knowledge and skills they need to identify, prevent, and address these serious issues. By understanding the signs and vulnerabilities associated with exploitation, we can intervene early and provide necessary support to victims. It is crucial that we are effective in supporting and safeguarding our tenants and communities, making sure they feel safe and protected from harm."
