Partnership working to transform gardens in Freckleton
Take a look at some of the incredible transformations of overgrown back gardens in one of our communities.
This project, with Green Space Transformations, has been a remarkable journey, not only in revamping seven garden spaces in Lower Lane, Freckleton, but also in enhancing the skills of the tenant involved in the work. Through our collaborative efforts, we have now also built a strong partnership with Green Space Transformations that will continue to benefit the community as an ongoing concern.
We have been working with Green Space Transformations to offer volunteers the opportunity to enhance their skills and take part in a six-week project to work on improving and tidying up garden spaces. This was supported by our Community Investment Fund.
One of our 17-year-old tenants who was looking to gain new skills and work experience through Progress Futures, worked on five gardens, accruing almost 100 hours of gardening time.
Over the course of six weeks, he cut down hedges, and brambles, mowed the grass, removed weed and invasive roots, cleared away rubbish and strimmed pathways.
James Baker, CEO and founder of Green Space Transformations, said: “Whilst we are working in the gardens for a few days, the impact these transformations have on the residents lasts much longer.
When residents came home to see the final result, they have been astonished by the transformations and now have a plan to keep it looking great. This project is a shining example of how dedicated efforts can make a significant difference in people's lives and their environment."
Tenants have been so impressed by the results, some have asked Green Space Transformation to return to complete more work (at the tenants’ own cost).
Lynda tells us: “I was very pleased with what they did – it looked really nice. I had done as much as I could myself but the brambles were getting out of hand so it really helped me. I have asked them to come back again as I don’t mind paying.”
We look forward to more rewarding projects and continuing our mission to support Green Space Transformations.
