Social value | Donating old kitchen appliances
We are always finding new ways to provide social value to our communities.
Our subsidiary, Progress Living, provides essential key worker accommodation to the United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust at its Lincoln, Boston and Grantham sites. When our trades team started on the refurbishment of the kitchens, we wanted to make good use of the redundant appliances.
After researching local organisations, we donated them to Falcon Support Services, which provides housing and community support, and recovery services to help people across Leicestershire live independently.
Dean, Contracts Surveyor at Progress Housing Group, said: “When it comes to kitchen refurbishments, there are a number of appliances that are no longer needed due to new kitchen designs or upgrading the white goods. These appliances are all in working order, so it made better sense to donate them to a worthy cause as well as the obvious environmental benefits.”
Natalie, Senior Support Worker at Falcon Support Services, said: “Dean contacted me to tell me he was working on kitchen refurbishments at Progress Living’s accommodation and that he had appliances all in working order.
“When housing people, their properties are completely empty, and some people have nothing in their property for months, even years. So when Dean spoke to me about what he could possibly donate, it was amazing.
“Dean calls me to let me know what appliance he has available and the location they are at.
“We’ve been to Leicester and even as far as Lincoln to make collections, but it is all worth it because it is a huge need in our organisation.
“We have had roughly around 27 appliances from Progress Housing Group which has gone on to help over 20 people in their own homes. We look forward to continuing the relationship.”
