Social value | Donating old kitchen appliances
We are always finding new ways to provide social value to our communities.
When Contracts Surveyor Dean Overton was working on refurbishing the kitchens for our Progress Living properties in Leicester, he knew exactly what to do with the old appliances.
He donated them to Falcon Support Services, which provides housing and community support, and recovery services to help people across Leicestershire live independently.
Dean said: “When it comes to kitchen refurbishments, there are a number of white goods that are no longer needed due to new kitchen designs or upgrading the white goods. These appliances are all in working order and cost the business money to dispose of either via our white goods team or through on contractors.”
Natalie Laird, Senior Support Worker at Falcon Support Services, said: “Dean contacted me about the fact he was working on kitchen refurbs and that he had appliances all in working order.
“When housing people, their properties are completely empty, and some people have nothing in their property for months, even years. So when Dean spoke to me about what he could possibly donate, it was amazing.
“Dean calls me to let me know what appliance he has available and the location they are at.
“We’ve been to Leicester and even as far as Lincoln to make collections, but it is all worth it because it is a huge need in our organisation.
“We have had roughly around 27 appliances from Progress Housing Group which has gone on to help over 20 people in their own accommodations. We look forward to continuing the relationship.”
