Tenants' Talk | Keen to be Green update

We are committed to making our homes eco-friendly and affordable.

In our recent Tenants' Talk – Keen to be Green, our Environmental and Sustainability Manager, Alex Forman, talked about what we have done this past year.

We have:
•    Improved 79 homes to energy rating C with money from the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund
•    Got funding to invest £5.8 million to upgrade over 400 homes to energy rating C in three years - read more here: 'Warm Homes' funding success | Progress Housing Group
•    Installed High Heat Retention Storage Heaters at Saltcotes to save energy
•    Lowered energy bills by up to 33% in some housing with LED lighting upgrades
•    Increased homes with energy certificates to 81.1%
•    Reduced homes with a D rating or lower to 27%
•    Installed water-saving devices in 418 homes, saving 18,500 litres of water each day
•    Introduced our first electric van.

Over the next 3-5 years, we plan to:
•    Bring all homes to energy rating C
•    Look into electric vehicle charging and communal heating optimisation
•    Review maintenance and repair contract of air source heat pumps
•    Improve carbon knowledge within the group
•    Find ECO funding for future energy efficiency works.

You said, we did:
•    Tenants said the storage heaters at Saltcotes are not easy to use. We will create a how-to guide for tenants.
•    Tenants wanted to be part of project discussions to address concerns. We will involve tenants earlier in the program.

Alex Forman, Environmental and Sustainability Manager, said: “Thank you to the tenants who joined us for our Tenants’ Talk about how we are Keen to be Green. We had some great discussions about how we use Government funding to make sure all work is up to standard and benefits tenants. We also listened to feedback about involving tenants in project discussions so they are more engaged and invested in the benefits.
“As we have a lot going on over the next year, we are planning on holding another Keen to be Green update in another six months. Please feel free to join our next one and learn about our work to make your homes more environmentally sustainable.”
