Employee blog | Career development at Progress Housing Group

Learning opportunities and career progression provided at the Group have led to exciting new roles elsewhere in the housing sector for our colleagues Louise and Coralie.

Despite soon saying goodbye to the Group, Louise and Coralie say that the opportunities they've received at the Group have helped them to further their careers.

In this blog, they tell us what their time at the Group has meant to them and about the personal and professional development they've received.

Louise:

"I started working for the Group as a Housing Assistant when I was in my early twenties. I, like many at that age, didn't really know anything about social housing at all but I knew from pretty much my first day that this was the place for me; every day is different, and I've met some of my lifelong friends at the Group.

"I was given many opportunities whilst working at the Group; I completed my CIH Level 4 early on in my career, I've had both frontline and back office roles and been able to build external networks. And I've moved on to become a manager.

"I'll miss the people I have worked with in the past and the present. I've met some incredibly influential people in my personal and professional life whilst working at the Group, and I'm thankful for all the opportunities I've had."

Coralie:

"I worked as a Complaints Coordinator for 11 years before coming to the Group. But my role here has given me more opportunities to help with service improvements and provided me with new challenges and learning, including taking on line-management responsibility.

"The values at Progress also aligned with my own and having the customer at the heart is something I feel passionately about, and one value that I'll be taking with me as I leave to join my new employer.

"I've also received appreciation and support from senior colleagues. In previous workplaces, the senior leaders weren't accessible, and you never got to meet the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Here, our CEO, Jacqui, carried out my induction, and every member of the Senior Leadership Team has always been available when I needed them. They've contacted me to see how they can support me in my role and have also taken the time to show me their appreciation personally — showing that it's not only customers who are the people at the heart of Progress.

"I have enjoyed my time here - I'll miss the people and it has been a difficult decision to leave. I have been involved in a lot of work to improve reporting, and we are close to being able to see the benefits of this to focus on some key areas of service improvements - something I have been looking forward to, but won't be here to be a part of.

"To anyone new thinking about coming to work with us at the Group, or to any new starters, I would like to say that Progress Housing Group has been the best place I have worked throughout my career. It's a caring and diverse organisation, and one you shouldn't hesitate to join if you are lucky enough to get the opportunity."

Louise and Coralie, we wish you all the best in your new roles!
