Real stories of Progress | David's story
Being in an independent living property opens up opportunities to create and become part of a community and reduce social isolation.
David lives in Jubilee Court in Leyland with his wife, Wilma, and they have been tenants with us for eight years.
David runs a monthly quiz and arranges coach trips for tenants at Jubilee Court, Lowerhouse and Wrightsfold, alongside the day trips the Group organises.
He says: “I run a quiz on the second Wednesday of the month. It started off as four people and now we have around 10. We all enjoy it – it is not about the winning but the taking part. It gets us out of our flats for a few hours where we can chat to our neighbours.
“I also organise trips out, using Preston Community Transport, where people from Jubilee Court and Lowerhouse attend. We like going to Lyndene Hotel in Blackpool. We plan to go for the illuminations and again for Christmas. In fact, we recommended this venue to Progress for its own trips for tenants.
“I enjoy organising these things for people. Our Independent Living Coordinator Jacci is brilliant and she helps with the organising.”
David was also more than happy to get involved in helping to recruit the newest Customer Voice Officer, Clare.
He adds: “I used to be a manager so I am aware of what is involved in recruitment and I wanted to help with that. I found it very enjoyable to help make the decision of who would become our new Customer Voice Officer.”
• We organise activities and coach trips at some of our independent living schemes to help reduce social isolation. If you want to find out more, please get in touch with the Customer Voice Team at community@progressgroup.org.uk, call Danni on 07929 856305 or Clare on 07866 010999.
